IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING DMPS

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING DMPS

If your physician is recommending DMPS, and you are considering it, get educated yourself.  Be prepared to ask your physician some very poignant questions:

     1.   Why a synthetic chelator rather than natural methods?

     2.   Why DMPS rather than DMSA?

     3.   Why parenteral administration rather than oral administration?

Investigate your physician's answers yourself.  Make sure you don't have any of the risk factors listed elsewhere on this site, and make sure your liver, kidneys and gastrointestinal system are working well.  If you can't eliminate the toxin, you'll just "retox".

My strong recommendation is that you try synthetic chelators only as a last resort.  Oral DMSA is much safer than DMPS.  If you must try DMPS, try a low dose ORAL administration to test your reaction.

In my opinion, parenteral DMPS should only be used in cases of acute poisoning.   In those cases, DMPS can save lives.  If you have a recent exposure to a toxic metal, you should consider this a medical emergency, and seek professional help immediately.
